Reblogged from Connective Tissue Disorders: My Journey:
February is Marfan Syndrome awareness month! In order to raise awareness I'll be posting a Marfact a day - provided by the wonderful NMF. I absolutely love looking at the profile pictures and status' of the Marfamily on Facebook. We're all so intent on getting the word out. Marfan Syndrome is not an extremely rare disorder; 1 in 5,000 is actually a pretty big number.
Spreading the word about a condition that can be fatal especially if it's not caught and monitored. Marfan Syndrome is a condition effecting the connective tissues of the body especially in the heart, lungs, spine and eyes.
Scary how something that effects 1 in 5000 people can be so unknown!

I’ve never heard about it before. Will read on it, thanks for sharing!

It’s definitely worth having a read on it…you never know who might have it and just not know. I don’t fit the criteria…no one could ever say I was tall, had long spindly arms and legs or long thin fingers like spiders (I went searching on the internet to find out more).
